Biography

Born and raised in South-Central AKL, NZ, Luke-W draws from a wide range of Rock, Hip-Hop and R&B influences from the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Chris Cornell to contemporary artists like Drake, Mac Miller, Kanye, Kendrick Lamar and The Weeknd.

Picking up guitar in his early teens with his Mother as a music teacher, Luke-W uncovered a raw talent for lyricism and story-telling through freestyle rap and singing. After leaving University in 2015 to pursue music, Luke spent two years living in Bristol, UK. Producing and recording music in the underground scene under the moniker ‘Citizon’, he released an eponymous EP in 2017 before returning to New Zealand.

After his discovery by Indie-Urban label ‘Move The Crowd’ (MTC), Luke-W released the ‘Progress’ EP in 2019 debuting his enigmatic sound back home and in 2020 dropped follow-up project ‘Timing Is Everything’ with singles, ‘Breathe’ featuring NZ Hip-Hop icon Sid Diamond, ‘True Cause’ and ‘The Ride’, which was subsequently remixed by emerging DnB artist CHEFF for ‘The Ride – Remixes’ along with the stripped back Edge TV Unplugged version with guitarist and frequent collaborator Andrew Meyer.

In November 2021, Luke-W announced his upcoming project ‘Close As Ever’.
